OAKLAND, Calif., June 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente, the nation's largest integrated health system, announced today that Linda Knodel has been named chief nurse executive and senior vice president, National Patient Care Services.
In her new role, Knodel will lead a nursing organization of 54,000 nurses across eight states and serving 11.8 million members. Knodel will report directly to Gregory Adams, executive vice president and group president, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals.
"Nursing practice at Kaiser Permanente has long been innovative, diverse and known for its excellence in research, care and service," said Adams. "Our nurses have a tremendous impact on the way our members experience care at Kaiser Permanente each and every day. Under Linda's leadership, we will increase our emphasis on harnessing the power of our integrated system and take our already outstanding nursing organization to the next level."
Knodel is a nationally recognized nursing leader with decades of experience and expertise in leadership across inpatient, ambulatory and continuum-of-care settings. She is a past president of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and is the 2016 recipient of American College of Healthcare Executives Gold Medal Award in the category of health care delivery organization. The award recognizes outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions to the health care profession.
Most recently, Knodel served as senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Mercy Health System, a large Catholic health care system that includes 45 hospitals, 16,000 nurses, 40,000 co-workers, and 2,000 integrated-care physicians, serving residents in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Previously, she was vice president and chief nursing officer at Mercy Springfield Communities in Springfield, Missouri, and senior vice president and chief nursing officer at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota.
"I am honored to join Kaiser Permanente, a nationally recognized leader in health care," said Knodel. "In these times of dynamic change and innovation in our industry, the role of nursing is growing in exciting ways. As care delivery continues to expand into new settings and reaches people where they live, work and play, the person-centered, compassionate care that nurses deliver will be increasingly critical. I look forward to helping expand the value and impact of nursing to serve Kaiser Permanente's mission."
