Verizon Delaware President William R. Allan to Retire After 33 Years of Service
WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- William R. Allan, president of Verizon Delaware, has announced that he will retire at the end of the year after 33 years of service with Verizon.

"His leadership and broad experience have guided Verizon through a period of dramatic change in Delaware's telecommunications landscape. Allan said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed being in the middle of the constant changes occurring in the telecommunications industry during my career. I've been able to work with many talented people in our company and with leaders in business and government. I am very thankful for the opportunities Verizon has offered me, and am proud of what my teams and I have been able to accomplish."
Allan began his telecommunications career in 1978 as a central office engineer with the New York Telephone Company in New York City. He went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, network planning, marketing, public affairs and government relations at New York Telephone, NYNEX, Bellcore and Bell Atlantic. In 2005, Allan was named president of Verizon Delaware and assumed responsibility for Verizon's public policy initiatives in the state.
Allan is the vice chair of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, and he serves on the boards of the Christiana Care Health System Visiting Nurse Association, the Delaware Business Roundtable and the Delaware Association of Nonprofit Agencies. Allan also is on the Delaware P-20 Council and until recently was the board chair of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League. He also serves on the Christiana Care Health System Board of Trustees.
Allan graduated from Manhattan College with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and from New York University with a master's degree in business administration.
Organizational changes resulting from Allan's retirement will be determined at a later date.
