VBOX, Inc.'s Trooper(TM) Oxygen Concentrator Receives FDA Approval
New Wearable Device Delivers Oxygen Therapy To Patients
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn., Sept. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- VBOX, Inc., a medical device company, today announces that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved its Trooper™ portable oxygen concentrator for prescription oxygen therapy. The Trooper will be available in second quarter of 2013 for patients who are prescribed oxygen and want to maintain a more active lifestyle.
The Trooper provides oxygen therapy via the first truly wearable, full-range concentrator ever launched. The size of the device is equivalent to a small pair of binoculars and is capable of delivering a pulse of one to five liters per minute flow equivalence. Weighing only three and a half pounds with its battery, the Trooper can fit in a fanny pack or purse and can be worn over the shoulder or around the waist. Two half-pound rechargeable batteries are included, each lasting approximately 3 hours and delivering a six-hour running time with both batteries.
"The Trooper is a major technological breakthrough for medical oxygen therapy and we are thrilled to bring this device to our patients," says William Still, VBOX Chief Executive Officer. "For many medical conditions that require oxygen therapy, exercise and movement is key to maintaining lung function, so a truly wearable oxygen therapy solution will make a significant difference in the quality of life for these individuals."
The FDA determined the VBOX Trooper oxygen concentrator is substantially equivalent to legally marketed predicate devices and is approved for use on a prescriptive basis by patients requiring supplemental oxygen. It supplies a high concentration of oxygen and is used with a nasal cannula to channel oxygen from the concentrator to the patient. When available in 2013, The Trooper may be used in home, institution, vehicle and various mobile environments.
