VanDyne SuperTurbo™ Wins the Frost & Sullivan 2012 Automotive Powertrain New Product Innovation Award
FT. COLLINS, Colo., Jan. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- VanDyne SuperTurbo, Inc. has announced the receipt of Frost & Sullivan's 2012 North American New Product Innovation Award in the Automotive Powertrain Market.
"The most innovative factor of the VanDyne SuperTurbo is that it mechanically controls the speed ratio between the engine and the turbine or the compressor wheels. VanDyne has developed a proprietary high speed drive system that provides efficient and reliable torque transfer on and off high-speed rotating parts. When combined with the continuously variable transmission (CVT), the engine management system (EMS) can develop or generate the desired boost pressure at any engine speed," said the analyst from Frost & Sullivan.
Northwater Capital's Intellectual Property Fund has also increased its funding commitment from a previously announced $8 million to $10 million in the Company's Series C round. The Company is still seeking an additional $5 million of new investment to complete the Series C round. Proceeds from the financing will speed up the commercialization of the Heavy Duty SuperTurbo™ for On-Highway Trucks and construction equipment. "Thanks to Northwater we will continue to invest significantly in the development and commercialization of the SuperTurbo in the next two years," said Ed VanDyne, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. "This round of funding will allow the company to put the SuperTurbo through the rigorous durability testing required by the trucking industry."
The VanDyne SuperTurbo technology integrates the functionality of supercharging and turbocharging into a single device which improves transient fuel efficiency and reduces soot emissions. The SuperTurbo also provides a third benefit called turbocompounding which increases the efficiency of an engine from the collection of waste heat energy in the exhaust pipe. The SuperTurbo can be added to On-Highway Heavy Duty Truck engines without modification, and promises to deliver between 3% to 6% reduction of fuel consumption.
