U.S. Wireless Carriers Fast Track Mobile Donations to Help Earthquake Victims in Haiti
$10 million raised so far for the American Red Cross mobile giving campaign powered by mGive
DENVER, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Video and photos of the horrendous damage in Haiti moved U.S. citizens to act quickly and donate more than $10 million within 36 hours using their mobile phones to support the American Red Cross relief effort. The outpouring of support for the people of Haiti has been tremendous as small donations sent by text message have made it easier and faster than ever before to help those in need.
Given the urgency of the crisis, Verizon Wireless, along with other US carriers, plan to fast track funds to American Red Cross to support relief efforts in Haiti. mGive, a pioneer and leader in powering mobile donations for nonprofit organizations, reports that more than 900,000 people have made $10 mobile donations to the Red Cross to directly support the people of Haiti.
At the request of the U.S. State Department, mGive is working with the Red Cross to provide immediate donations for the earthquake victims in Haiti. The mGive Foundation provides the easiest, fastest and most direct way for people to help. For those who want to donate to the Red Cross effort in Haiti, a simple text message contributes $10 to the relief effort, billed to the donor's mobile bill. To donate:
- Text the word HAITI to 90999 to give $10
- When prompted, reply with YES to confirm your one-time gift
- The $10 one-time donation will appear on your next mobile bill
- Receipts can be printed at www.mGive.org/receipt
100 percent of the donations will go to the Red Cross to help those hit by this natural disaster.
Tony Aiello, CEO of mGive said, "The response from all over the U.S. has been amazing, showing how small donations can add up to provide a powerful response to those in need. From the moment the State Department requested our help to turn on the short code on January 12th, donations began to come in."
Jenifer Snyder, the Executive Director of the mGive Foundation said, "We thank all those who continue to share the word and generously contribute. The people of Haiti will need our support in the weeks and months to come."
