SAN MATEO, Calif., June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report, publisher of Best Hospitals, Best Medical Schools and Best Health Insurance Plans, has announced a new collaboration with Doximity, the leading professional network for doctors. Working with Doximity, U.S. News will offer a free online directory of more than 700,000 practicing U.S. physicians. This enables U.S. News to better serve its mission of providing consumers with data and tools to help guide them in selecting medical providers, which can be among life's most crucial decisions.

U.S. News will also help doctors take advantage of Doximity's free networking service, which lets licensed physicians interact with their referral networks, exchange and sign HIPAA-compliant communications via smartphone and collaborate on cases. More than 20% of U.S. physicians already use the Doximity service.
"With over 170,000 physician members, Doximity has become the CV source for physicians researching other physicians -- their training, insurers accepted, certifications, publications, and other bona fides," said Jeff Tangney, CEO of Doximity. "We're excited to work with U.S. News to help patients find the right physician, precisely and reliably."
"Consumers face a thicket of complex decisions when they need healthcare," said Ben Harder, U.S. News's General Manager for Health Rankings. "Each of our services, from our recently released Best Health Insurance Plans ratings to our long-standing Best Hospitals rankings, aims to help guide patients through the tough choices they face. Doximity's rich data set, which doctors themselves help keep current, will enable us to better assist consumers in yet another important healthcare decision: choosing a doctor."
For doctors, the new collaboration offers an opportunity to accurately represent themselves to the online public. Physicians can control whether certain information is shared publicly. Now, simply by maintaining an up-to-date profile on doximity.com, a doctor can ensure that visitors to usnews.com, who number more than 20 million a month, know which hospitals she admits patients to, for example, and which insurance plans she accepts.
U.S. News ranks hospitals in 16 adult specialties and 10 pediatric specialties and rates more than 8,000 health insurance plans. For more information, see http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and http://health.usnews.com/health-insurance.
