US EPA Honors American DG Energy with 2009 Carbon Reduction Award
Total Emissions Reductions Increased 78% Over 2008 Award
WALTHAM, Mass., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American DG Energy Inc. (NYSE Amex: ADGE) a leading On-Site Utility, offering clean electricity, heat, hot water and cooling solutions to healthcare, hospitality, housing and athletic facilities, was honored for the fourth year in a row by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Partnership for the carbon emissions reductions of the Company's CHP projects.
"Combined heat and power is an efficient, clean, and reliable approach to generating power and thermal energy from a single fuel source," said Susan Wickwire, Chief of the Energy Supply and Industry Branch, Environmental Protection Agency. "CHP plays an important role in reducing the environmental impact of power generation. We applaud American DG Energy's effort because the improvement in efficiency translates to a reduction in total fossil fuel use, reduced emissions of criteria air pollutants and carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas contributor to global climate change."
American DG Energy, a member of the CHP Partnership, was presented with a certificate by the EPA in recognition of the Company's contribution to efficient energy production. The 2009 certificate states that the high efficiency of the Company's CHP projects produced an estimated 16,000 metric tons (65,000 tons) of carbon equivalents less than typical separate heat and power, resulting in annual carbon emissions reductions equivalent to the emissions from 3,333 passenger vehicles. This represents a 78% increase over the Company's emissions reductions stated in the 2008 certificate, which was 9,000 metric tons (36,400 tons).
As an example, a 75 kW CHP system, operated by American DG Energy, running at 100% capacity could supply offsets up to 371 tons of carbon dioxide gas each year, the equivalent of eliminating the emissions of 61 cars. Over the lifetime of a typical on-site energy agreement a single system could offset up to 5,565 tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of eliminating the emissions of 915 cars.
