U.S. Department of Agriculture Awards Virtual World Contract to SAIC
Company to Provide Enterprise Grade Software Platform OLIVE™ to Help Build and Host 3D Virtual Worlds
MCLEAN, Va., May 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been awarded a new prime contract by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Office of the Chief Information Officer, to support the Virtual Government (vGov) project by providing virtual world software products. The multiple award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract has a one-year base period of performance, three one-year options and a total ceiling value of $18 million for all awardees. Work will be performed primarily in Orlando, Fla. and San Mateo, Calif.
vGov will enable the federal government to build and host a highly reliable and available private world that is able to operate using firewalled or classified networks and is capable of integrating with legacy and emerging technologies. The USDA will use vGov to conduct continuity of operation exercises in the virtual world. Under the contract, SAIC will provide virtual world software products to the USDA as required, including the OLIVE™ (On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment) software platform, to assist in the development of virtual world solutions. In addition to providing the OLIVE software platform, SAIC will deliver development, integration, fielding and training services to support the hosting of 3-D worlds for collaboration, training, rehearsal, analysis, simulation, experimentation and education.
