TUESDAY, JUNE 15: GOING ON A CRUISE
Profile America — Tuesday, June 15th. Even with the lingering effects of the economic downturn, this is vacation time across the country. Millions of Americans are still ready to head for the beach, the mountains and to theme parks and family reunions. An increasing number of travelers are choosing to avoid crowded highways and searching for a hotel, and spending their vacation aboard a cruise ship. There are some 160 cruise ships serving North America. Together, their cabins contain more than 268,000 beds. Around the world, more than 12-1/2 million passengers embark on cruise ships each year. Close to three-quarters of them embark at U.S. ports, with Florida having the largest number of sailings. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
