SATURDAY, AUGUST 28: COOKOUT SEASON CLOSING
Profile America — Saturday, August 28th. On this last weekend before the Labor Day holiday, many backyard chefs across the country will be firing up their grills to show off their cooking skills for one of the last times this summer. Purists will use charcoal; the more practical will be heating up their gas grills. Along with ribs, hamburgers, and hot dogs, there will be the traditional side dishes of baked beans and potato salad, as well as ketchup, mustard, and barbecue sauce. It's also a foregone conclusion that many backyard events will have coolers stuffed with soft drinks and beer. Some may include a keg of beer. Americans drink an average of nearly 22 gallons of beer each year, compared to 49 gallons of soft drinks. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
