SUNDAY, APRIL 11: LIBRARY WEEK
Profile America -- Sunday, April 11th. April is an important month in the world of books. In 1800, one of the world's greatest libraries, the Library of Congress, was founded, and Noah Webster published the first dictionary of American English in 1828. This is also the first day of National Library Week, celebrating libraries and those professionals and volunteers who staff them. While computers and electronic media are of increasing importance in the services libraries offer, books remain at the core of their collections. Across the U.S., there are more than 16,600 public libraries, with a total staff of 145,000. Profile America is presented by the U.S. Census Bureau, reminding you -- take part in the 2010 Census and put your census form in the mail.
