U.S. Army and Ten80 Education announce new student racing challenge events
Events showcase Science, Technology, Engineering, Math to students across the Nation
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army and Ten80 Education today announced a schedule of Ten80 Student Racing Challenge events sponsored by the U.S. Army in conjunction with the U.S. Army National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Racing team.
Ten80 Education is comprised of engineers, scientists, educators and marketing professionals who have developed a unique and innovative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum utilizing the racing platform to illustrate various STEM principles. The Student Racing Challenge was the first in a series of Student STEM Challenges, courses and clubs that now include computer science, energy, robotics, and innovation and enterprise topics.
The U.S. Army and Ten80 Education invite local students to learn about STEM through panel discussions with STEM leaders, interactive workshops and competitions during each event.
During the Ten80 STEM Expo, students work in teams to come up with an innovative product or service that can meet a community need. They then deliver a 30-second presentation to gain support for their idea. The teams attend interactive workshops that focus on enterprise topics such as: binary coding, robotics and racing; leadership skills – moving ideas into action; and the art of the marketing pitch. Team members come together for the final workshop session, armed with new concepts and skills to apply to the challenge.
"The U.S. Army partnership with Ten80 Education enables us to reach thousands of high school students each year to emphasize the importance of science, technology, engineering and math education," said Mark S. Davis, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for marketing. "The U.S. Army is the Nation's most versatile and adaptable team, and STEM and leadership skills are essential to our success. With Ten80 Education, the Army team continues to leverage its deep STEM expertise to help educate students across America about these critical skills."
The U.S. Army supports Ten80 Education's initiative to promote an academic curriculum emphasizing STEM. The leadership, adaptability and versatility of the student competitors parallel that of the U.S. Army Racing teams and are highly reflective of today's Army Soldiers. Like the Ten80 Education program, the Army is successful because of its strong focus on teamwork and technology—which drives Army Soldiers and the Army Racing team.
