University of South Carolina's Moore School Continues to Build Leadership Position in International Business
COLUMBIA, S.C., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- With a slate of new initiatives and a tradition of pioneering leadership in international business, the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina continues to strengthen its position among the top b-schools in the world in the international business category.
In the latest ranking of graduate programs announced last week by U.S. News & World Report , the School continued as the top public university in the international business category and placed third just behind the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania overall in the category. Recently, the School was ranked as the best business school in the world for "international experience" in the Global MBA Rankings by the Financial Times. In the report, released annually by the FT, Moore's MBA program also placed second in the "International Business" subject area category.
"At Moore, we are committed to building on our long-standing leadership position in international business, evidenced by the launch of innovative and interdisciplinary degree programs and the continued efforts of world-class faculty, staff and students," said Dean Hildy Teegen.
In the past year, the School has continued its strong momentum in international business with new initiatives and achievements centered on developing leaders for a sustainable, global society:
- It launched new international programs at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The Master of International Business (MIB) is a unique one-year interdisciplinary graduate program offered jointly by the University of South Carolina's Moore School, College of Arts and Sciences (Political Science) and School of Law. The International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) is a collaborative program with the Chinese University of Hong Kong for undergraduates that includes two years of study in Hong Kong, along with intensive language and cultural training.
- A team of students from the Moore School's International MBA program competed in the 2010 John Molson MBA international Case Competition in Montreal, Canada and remained the only undefeated team in the divisional round of the competition – keeping its unbeaten streak in the divisional round over the past two years.
- The School joined the prestigious Global Business School Network (GBSN), an international nonprofit organization working to strengthen management education in emerging markets through a distinctive global network of more than three dozen of the world's leading business schools --including the London Business School, Harvard, Wharton, Yale, the University of Chicago, MIT, Columbia, Michigan, Duke, Stanford, and the University of California at Berkeley.
- Global business experts, including economists, sociologists and political scientists, from the world's leading business schools and universities convened recently in Charleston, S.C. to discuss a range of issues related to the current global economic crisis and the dramatic changes in the international marketplace. The interdisciplinary conference was hosted by the Moore School and sponsored by the Academy of International Business and the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER).
- This year, the School is also pioneering new classroom technology, including Cisco Telepresence, to bring executive participants from around the world together in a virtual "learning community" for several of its graduate-level and executive programs.
The Moore School was an early leader among business schools when it created an International Business academic area of study more than 40 years ago with the support of regional bank presidents, university leaders, engineers, textile manufacturers, utility executives, and others who foresaw an early need to train students in global business and management skills as the business environment began to expand to an international level.
In addition to the U.S. News and Financial Times ranking, the School has been widely recognized for its leadership in international business:
- Top ranked undergraduate international business specialty in U.S. News & World Report
- No. 9 in the world for excellence in international business in The Wall Street Journal
- No. 25 among ranked public schools for "fast return on investment" for graduates of two-year MBA programs in the U.S. in Forbes
- No. 3 for "fastest return" on an MBA student's education investment in Bloomberg BusinessWeek
