United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey and Uber Partner to Provide Safe Rides at Made in America Festival
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) and Uber have joined forces to ensure Budweiser Made in America Festival attendees arrive home safely this weekend.
Uber, a mobile technology company that connects riders with drivers at the tap of a button, is offering all new Uber users a free ride of up to $20, using the promotional code BMIAPHL during the festival to promote their "Safe Rides" initiative. For every person that signs up with the code and takes a ride, Uber will donate $1.00 to United Way's Impact Fund. Through the Impact Fund, United Way invests in nonprofit organizations and United Way-led programs that deliver measurable results in the areas of Education, Income, Health and Basic Needs.
"We value opportunities to partner with organizations and leverage our collective resources to address our region's toughest Education, Income and Health challenges," said Chris Murray, vice president of communications and external affairs at UWGPSNJ. "We're thankful that Uber recognizes the Impact that can be made when the business and nonprofit sectors come together."
For the third consecutive year, UWGPSNJ will benefit from the Budweiser Made in America Festival, taking place August 30-31 along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. A primary goal of this event is to have a positive impact on the local community and, once again, the concert will enable UWGPSNJ to invest in education and talent development initiatives to enhance cradle-to-career education and equip individuals with job skills and training.
