United Friends of the Children to Honor Senator Christopher Dodd and Polly Williams at the Brass Ring Awards Dinner on June 6, 2016

United Friends of the Children (UFC) is guided by the vision to change the face of foster care in Los Angeles with a goal that the youth in their housing and education programs not only survive, but thrive. They are dedicated to supporting 1,400 Los Angeles current and former foster youth annually on their journey towards a successful and independent adulthood. The Brass Ring Awards Dinner recognizes and honors those who have committed a significant amount of energy and resources to help improve the lives of youth in the community.

As the recipient of this year's Brass Ring Award, Chris Dodd is recognized as one of the most widely respected legislators in Congress and is Connecticut's longest serving member for over 30 years. Considered as the "Children's Senator," he served many years as Chairman of the Senate's Children and Families Subcommittee working to protect the rights and improve the health and well-being of children, including those in foster care. His dedication, commitment and accomplishments that have benefitted children over the years are some of the many reasons UFC is thrilled to present him with this award. "I am deeply honored to be receiving the Brass Ring Award from the United Friends of the Children. For nearly four decades I was privileged to fight for our nation's children in the halls of Congress, to help ensure they have every opportunity to succeed in life regardless of the circumstances they are born into or grow up in.  But I would have accomplished far less without the help of extraordinary individuals like my dear friend, UFC's own Nancy Daly, Nancy was one of the greatest advocates for our nation's children that live in foster care. Polly Williams, President and CEO of UFC from 2001-2015 is being presented with the Nancy M. Daly Founder's Award. As the driving force behind UFC for 15 years, Polly focused the energy of UFC on direct services during the organizations expansion to help more than 15,000 foster youth graduate from high school and college along with finding houses, jobs and learning to live independently. Throughout her time with UFC, Polly led the design and implementation of Pathways Housing and College Readiness, two groundbreaking and life-changing programs.
