MERIDIAN, Idaho, Sept. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Idaho College and Career Readiness Academy (IDCCRA), a tuition-free, online public school, welcomes new and returning students for the 2015-2016 academic year, beginning September 8, 2015. The first of its kind in Idaho, IDCCRA is an innovative, individualized high school for college and technical career-minded students. IDCCRA students gain exposure to relevant technical and specialty trade skills from courses built around four career paths -- Website Development, Business and Marketing, Healthcare and Automated Manufacturing -- that help students prepare for industry certification tests after graduation.
"By providing a strong academic foundation with relevant exploration of career paths, we give students essential academic and technical skills," said Monti Pittman, Head of School at IDCCRA. "Our vision is to provide Idaho business with educated, skilled students who are ready for employment. That benefits individuals, families, industries, and the economy throughout our state."
Students who enroll at IDCCRA follow an academic program that includes engaging web-based lessons along with age-appropriate instructional materials – books, videos, and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities where students have the opportunity to participate in events that blend academics and socialization.
The rigorous and engaging online curriculum includes courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, as well as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. First year students start with exploratory CTE courses to expose them to all four potential pathways. In second and subsequent years, students can begin to specialize, selecting from one of the four course clusters, which include:
- Healthcare: Planning, managing, and providing therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development
- Business: Planning, organizing, directing and evaluating business functions essential to efficient and productive operations.
- Manufacturing: Planning, managing, and processing materials into intermediate or final products, and related professional and technical support activities such as production planning and control, maintenance, and manufacturing-process engineering.
- Web Design: Building linkages in IT occupations for entry level, technical, and professional careers related to the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services.
These courses are designed to allow students to gain a competitive edge in in the workforce, or to explore a possible college major. Graduates receive a high school diploma that meets all state requirements.
