Union of Unemployed Votes to Endorse Hillary Clinton
BETHESDA, Md., April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Union of Unemployed (UCubed) today endorsed Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. "Our nearly 300,000 Facebook fans experienced the Great Recession up close and personal," explained Rick Sloan, "They want Hillary to be their champion."
"In late March, our Open Letter to Hillary Clinton detailed how tough this seemingly never-ending recession has been for women and children. It asked Hillary to be their champion. Her answer was unequivocal," said Sloan, president of UCubed.
"So, we asked UCubed fans and their friends whom we should endorse. The results weren't even close," said Sloan, "Hillary Clinton came in first with 59.4%. Bernie Sanders was a distant second with 32.4%. Martin O'Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee drew 3.3%, 3.3% and 1.4%, respectively."
The Union of Unemployed, started in 2010, runs the largest Facebook page in the American labor movement. Nicknamed UCubed, it has engaged its fans and enraged politicians over three election cycles but has never endorsed a presidential candidate.
"During the 2014 election, UCubed reached 34.3 million Facebook users in nine weeks," Sloan said. "We put 34,000 UCubed fans on America's virtual streets every day from Labor Day to Election Day. And we expect to exceed those numbers for Hillary Clinton during the caucuses and primaries next year."
