NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Will this Valentine's Day be the most intimate ever? It would seem that way, with the release of a much talked about movie, which undoubtedly will encourage some more experimentation in the bedroom this year, but does more experimentation really lead to a more intimate Valentine's Day? More importantly, what do people really want for Valentine's Day? Harris Poll conducted a survey on behalf of K-Y® among over 2,000 U.S. adults, of which 1,342 are currently married or in committed relationships, and provided a private peek at couples' feelings about their relationships, intimacy and what they want in the bedroom.
The survey results show that what people really want this Valentine's Day is to fall in love with their partner all over again. According to the survey, nearly 60 percent of those in committed relationships wish they could recreate the feeling of first falling in love and 93 percent of those in committed relationships said that they would prefer an experience that can be shared by both partners for a better relationship over a really good present (7 percent).
Renowned relationship and intimacy expert Dr. Laura Berman weighed in on the survey results and shared her tips for reigniting the sparks felt when first falling in love.
"We live in a world where intimacy and sex are being talked about now more than ever before," said Berman. "This Valentine's Day is expected to be one of the most intimate but it can be even better if you and your partner try something new to make the passion even stronger. What many couples don't realize is that trying something new stimulates the same chemical reaction in your brain as falling in love again."
Some people may worry about what their partners would think of them if they introduce something new to their partner. What they don't know, and the survey proves, is that many couples would welcome the opportunity to try new things together, with three-quarters of men (77 percent) and two-thirds of women (67 percent) stating they would be willing to try new things to bring them closer to their partner. Additionally, one-third of women (29 percent) also admitted that Valentine's Day is the one day of the year when they're not afraid to be a little adventurous and unexpected in the bedroom. In fact, the survey also revealed that nearly 70 percent of men wish their partner would introduce new things into their relationship; though a quarter of women (26 percent) and a third of men (35 percent) admitted they don't know how to introduce something new to their partner.
"Intimacy is essential for keeping a couple connected and passionate and there are many ways couples can build a stronger relationship and heighten their level of intimacy," said Berman. "Trying something new doesn't have to mean going to the extreme, it can be about sharing a new experience together, whether it is in or out of the bedroom, such as trying a dance class or discovering a new part of town together. In the bedroom, a product like K-Y® YOURS + MINE® Couples Lubricants® is a great way to incorporate something new and deepen the connection you already have with your partner – bringing you even closer as a couple."
