DE PERE, Wis., Feb. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul sustainability practices have led to the acquisition and conversion of a former furniture and appliance store to a full-service moving and storage facility just south of Green Bay.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of De Pere is located at 1180 Mid Valley Drive. U-Haul closed on the property Aug. 5 and has been serving customers since Aug. 24. Extensive renovations will soon be completed with the addition of a new showroom and a second floor featuring approximately 1,000 climate-controlled storage units.
"We are excited to serve the families in the De Pere and Lawrence areas," general manager Vily Xiong said. "We are occupying a building that in the past several years had many tenants. The residents are glad to see a stable business like U-Haul that will be here for many years to come."
The building previously housed Furniture & ApplianceMart® as well as other furniture businesses. The 60,000-square-foot structure (pre-renovations) sits on 4.6 acres along Interstate 41 just south of the Main Avenue exit. It is easily visible with a new electronic signboard and is conveniently located near St. Norbert College.
Xiong and his team offer truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies, U-Box portable moving and self- storage containers, towing equipment, professional hitch installation and more. Propane also will be added in time for summer barbecues.
"Customer feedback has been exceptional," said Justin Kaminski, president of U-Haul Company of Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. "We cannot get enough product to serve the demand of a community that was previously underserved. Customers are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the climate-controlled storage units."

The acquisition of the De Pere property was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul® supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
"The store is unmatched by the typical mini-storage image with a professional building the community can be proud of," Kaminski noted. "We want to thank the town representatives as well as the residents for all of their support."
