SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash., July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul® is applying its adaptive reuse practices to the former University City Mall JCPenney® property to make do-it-yourself moving products and services more accessible to Spokane Valley residents.
U-Haul acquired the 108,766-square-foot building at 10412 E. Sprague Ave. on June 30. U-Haul Moving & Storage of U-City is already offering truck and trailer sharing, moving supplies, U-Box portable moving and storage containers and much more.
Renovation plans call for the creation of 835 indoor climate-controlled self-storage units with high-tech security features at affordable price points. Self-storage will be available early next year. U-Box may be used as temporary self-storage until the rooms are ready. Professional hitch installation and propane will also be offered at this location in the near future.
"This acquisition is all about customer convenience," said Manny Mendez, U-Haul Company of Inland Northwest president. "Spokane Valley is a growing community. There aren't very many state-of-the-art self-storage facilities here. Our other facilities in the area are nearing self-storage capacity, so we are happy to serve more customers."
Contact U-Haul Moving & Storage of U-City at (509) 922-4465 or stop by to visit general manager Adam Wagner and his team. Hours of operation are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Saturday; 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.
Mendez expects to employ a robust staff of full- and part-time U-Haul Team Members when the facility is fully operational. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth in Spokane Valley. U-Haul always encourages local contractors to bid on construction work.
"U-Haul strives to be sustainable," Mendez said. "This JCPenney opened in 1965. The building has been part of this community for decades. We look forward to beautifying this property while reducing our carbon footprint and saving building materials through adaptive reuse."
The recent acquisition of the Spokane Valley facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
