TXU Energy Summer Moratorium Gives Peace of Mind to Those in Need
FLEXIBLE ELECTRICITY PAYMENT PLANS, PROTECTION FROM DISCONNECTS & MORE
IRVING, Texas, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer. It's a time for backyard barbecues, family and good friends. But as temperatures soar, electricity costs are often a big concern for those who are struggling to make ends meet. So for the fourth year in a row, TXU Energy, Texas' leading electric retailer, has again declared a summer moratorium on disconnects for customers in need.
From July 1 through September 30, 2010, residential customers designated as low-income, ill or disabled, or who are at least 62 years of age can take advantage of a flexible energy payment plan. The company also has deposit waivers on an ongoing basis for qualified residential customers.
"At TXU Energy, we value our customers, which is why we voluntarily offer this summer moratorium, as well as several other programs to help customers cut electricity costs year round," said Michael Grasso, chief marketing officer at TXU Energy. "We understand that sometimes people need assistance with their electricity bills, so it's important for customers to call us at 1-800-242-9113 on or after July 1st and sign up for programs like this so we can assist them."
In addition to the 2010 summer moratorium plans, TXU Energy is also offering a set of commitments totaling $250 million through 2012, which include:
- $125 Million Commitment to the Low-Income Customer Discount Program. This 10 percent discount for participating low-income customers is in addition to the one provided by the State of Texas' System Benefit Fund – the state-directed program for low-income assistance on energy bills. As of April 2010, almost 135,000 TXU Energy customers have been enrolled to receive the discount.
- $25 Million Commitment to the TXU Energy Aid(SM) Program. Working with social service agencies statewide, the company administers and helps fund the TXU Energy Aid(SM) program, which benefits any customer who has an emergency need for bill payment assistance. TXU Energy Aid(SM) is the largest bill payment assistance program among electricity companies in the nation.
- $100 Million Commitment to Energy Efficiency and Conservation Investments. This helps customers reduce the amount of electricity they use through energy efficiency and energy conservation initiatives. A portion of this commitment has been dedicated to the company's Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, which targets single and multifamily homes by providing access to technologies that help customers use less electricity, reduce their overall bills and save money.
TXU Energy offers many energy-efficiency tools online as well as average monthly billing to help customers control electricity costs. Average Monthly Billing is available to all of the electric retailer's customers year round and allows customers to spread costs over 12 months, making monthly electricity bills more predictable.
