Tusk Montgomery Philanthropies Appoints New President Sheila Nix to Build on Success of Hunger Relief Campaigns Across the Country and Spearhead New Mobile Voting Initiative
CHICAGO, April 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Tusk Montgomery Philanthropies has appointed Chicago native and long time domestic policy and political expert Sheila Nix as its new President. Nix has been charged with building on the successful hunger relief campaigns that have run across the country for the last two years and to spearhead a new initiative to create and pass mobile voting across the country to increase voter participation and strengthen our democracy.
Nix comes to Tusk Montgomery with over close to three decades of leadership in political, domestic policy and innovative nonprofit operations. Most recently, as the Chief of Staff to Dr. Jill Biden and as a Deputy Assistant to President Obama, Nix coordinated policy and communications for signature efforts serving veterans, teachers, and women and girls across the globe. Nix previously worked on voter outreach plans for various presidential and gubernatorial campaigns, helped develop policies as Deputy Governor of Illinois and Chief of Staff to two US Senators, and coordinated resources across the country to fight poverty and disease in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond as the U.S. Executive Director of Bono's ONE Campaign.
"Sheila has always stood out as an innovator who brings fresh ideas and a relentless drive to get things done," said Bradley Tusk, the co-founder of the Tusk Montgomery Philanthropies. "As a proven and tireless advocate in the fight against poverty on a national and global stage, we are thrilled to have her lead this next stage of the Tusk Montgomery Philanthropies."
At Tusk Montgomery, Sheila will continue to build on the group's core mission to combat food insecurity in cities and states nationwide through coordinated campaigns. In addition, she will build support for mobile voting. As part of the initiative, it will be crucial to popularize the need for mobile voting to citizens and elected officials across the country. This non-partisan initiative is not designed to favor any one candidate or party but to expand voting options to increase participation in our electoral process.
Leveraging her diverse background in non-profit and political initiatives, Sheila will add a new level of ingenuity and expertise to the program.
