Turkic Platform Commemorates the Next 100 Years of Turkish-Armenian Cooperation
Hosts Performance of Peace Outside Historic Lincoln Memorial
WASHINGTON, April 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, 150 dancers performed a "performance of peace" in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., in commemoration to the next 100 years of Turkey-Armenia relations. Sponsored by the Turkic Platform, the purpose of this large demonstration was to raise awareness and foster greater cooperation between Turkey and Armenia.
Tensions between Turkey and Armenia over the 1915 conflict will culminated today, marking the 100th anniversary of Armenian claims against Turkey. Turkey adamantly denies these claims pointing to the millions of Turks, Kurds, Arabs, and Jews that were also killed during the conflict.
"The purpose of today's peaceful demonstration at the Lincoln Memorial was to put the past behind us and look forward to the next 100 years of a peaceful relationship between Turkey and Armenia," said Ayhan Ozemkik, a spokesperson for the Turkic Platform.
Today's performance featured 150 dancers and a color guard, in coordinated costumes, waving Turkish flags, and dancing in front of the historic Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. A similar performance was held on Tuesday in New York City's Times Square.
