TriStar Wellness Solutions® Obtains New Patent for HemCon's Chitosan Technology in Japan

WESTPORT, Conn., Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TriStar Wellness Solutions®, Inc. (OTCQB: TWSI), a health and wellness company that targets opportunities in the self-care and professional marketplace, has recently been awarded a new patent that supports our emerging status in the Japanese medical/dental markets. Patent application number 2008-537698 has received final approval for issuance to HemCon Medical Technologies® Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of TriStar Wellness Solutions, and is specific to HemCon's chitosan-based dental sponges for the Japanese market.

The HemCon^® Dental Dressings, which are covered under this patent, are designed to be used by oral surgeons and dentists following tooth extractions and other oral procedures. The dressings provide for several superior benefits including protection of the oral tissue, sealing the wound site and patient pain relief. The dressings are unique in their mechanism of action of providing a physical barrier to the wound site with the inherent muco adhesive properties of the hydrophilic polymer chitosan.

This most recent patent expands HemCon's extensive patent portfolio around the unique chitosan technology which includes 46 patents in the U.S. and internationally.
