Trend Micro Reinforces Commitment to Protecting the World's Governments
Undergoes Evaluations to Achieve Common Criteria EAL 4+ on Trend Micro(TM) Deep Security Product Line
OTTAWA, April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trend Micro, a global leader in Internet content security, today announced that its advanced server security solution, Trend Micro™ Deep Security is currently undergoing evaluation within the Canadian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification Scheme. Deep Security is being evaluated for the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 augmented (EAL 4+) certification.
Common Criteria is an internationally-accepted and standards-based criterion for IT security evaluation. Recognized in 25 countries, the criterion was developed through the efforts of security experts in the following countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States. Trend Micro chose to have Deep Security evaluated against the known and validated protection profile for intrusion detection systems created by the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States.
"Government organizations and enterprises are adopting diverse computing platforms, and server security solutions that enable protection for virtual and cloud-based servers are becoming more of a priority," said Wael Mohamed, senior vice president of Global Alliances at Trend Micro. "Our existing customers value the Common Criteria EAL 3+ certification Deep Security achieved in 2008. By pursuing an EAL 4+ validation, Trend Micro is reinforcing and strengthening our commitment to delivering quality software that has been rigorously evaluated and tested against recognized security guidelines."
"We congratulate Trend Micro for entering into EAL 4+ evaluation," said Maureen Barry, at Domus ITSL. "Trend Micro has demonstrated a commitment to the Common Criteria testing standards and to providing the federal government with CC EAL4+ security-certified technology."
"We believe it's important that security solutions adopted to secure VMware vSphere™ 4 environments achieve the same Common Criteria level as the virtualization infrastructure itself," said Mohamed. "This is why we have entered Trend Micro Deep Security into EAL 4+ CC evaluation; we are putting it through the same rigorous evaluation as VMware ESX/ESXi 4.0."
Trend Micro will be certifying all five of the Deep Security protection modules on all supported platforms including: Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and on VMware vSphere. Both the Deep Security Virtual Appliance and in-guest Agent technologies will be included in the certification process. This will achieve the most comprehensive certification for the most comprehensive virtualization and server security solution on the market.
Trend Micro's Common Criteria evaluation is being conducted by DOMUS IT Security Laboratory. Domus IT Security Laboratory is the third-party standards testing laboratory, accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) that is responsible for evaluating technology security products that meet the highest level of standards for use by the U.S. government. The comprehensive and extensive nature of the due-diligence criterion selected by Trend Micro will take 18 months to achieve certification and requires a high level of commitment and professionalism by all participants.
Trend Micro Deep Security provides advanced protection for servers and virtual machines that includes: a deep packet inspection engine with intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS); web application protection and network-level application control; firewall; integrity monitoring; log inspection; and anti-malware modules. It provides advanced server security where the entire server is protected, including the operating system, network and applications layers and regardless of computing environment, virtualization platform or storage location.
This protection is available for both physical and virtual systems using server-based software agents and a VMware VMsafe™ -based virtual appliance, and emphasizes:
- Preventing data breaches and disruptions by providing a layer of defense at the server itself, whether physical, virtual or cloud.
- Lowering the cost of security management for virtual and cloud computing environments.
- Helping to make possible compliance over a wide range of regulations and standards, including PCI, SAS 70, FISMA, HIPAA, NERC, and more.
- Providing customers that have virtualized on VMware vSphere with the most advanced and purpose-built protection possible for that environment.
