Travelzoo Announces Five Destinations that Offer You the Best Value for Summer 2010
NEW YORK, May 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fifty-nine percent of Americans claim a summer vacation will be too expensive to work into their budgets, says a new survey released by Travelzoo Inc. (Nasdaq: TZOO), a global Internet media company. In response to these findings, the company's global team of 120 deal experts developed a list of the five destinations they predict will offer the best values for summer 2010 travel. The destinations are: Australia & New Zealand, the Bahamas, Colorado, Las Vegas and Orlando.
Travelzoo has published outstanding deals for the five destinations at www.travelzoo.com/summer2010. Deals are updated based on availability and additional offers are published as they become available. All of the deals selected by Travelzoo have been evaluated by the company's deal experts and tested and verified by the Travelzoo Test Booking Center™.
Australia and New Zealand: Travelzoo deal experts have seen an increase in affordable airfare and vacation packages to both destinations, especially for May through August, which is winter Down Under. No need to pack a parka, though, as the average July temperature for Cairns, Australia is 78 degrees Fahrenheit and for Auckland, New Zealand is 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Demand in winter is lower, resulting in better deals. For example, Travelzoo recently published a 6-night Australia and New Zealand package for travel April through June, including air and hotel, for $999 per person.
The Bahamas: Quick and affordable flights make the Bahamas a perfect destination for a weekend beach getaway. Travelzoo's recent survey revealed 44 percent of Americans prefer relaxing and swimming at a beach while on vacation. However, 24 percent of respondents find taking time off the most challenging aspect of vacation planning. Since summer is shoulder season for the Bahamas, an influx of aggressive airfare, cruise and vacation deals makes this string of 700 islands easily accessible and affordable for travelers looking for a quick and sunny weekend escape.
Colorado: While primarily recognized as a world-renowned ski destination, the Centennial State has an abundance of summer activities. Travelzoo found almost half of Americans (49 percent) enjoy exploring nature, hiking and outdoor activities while on vacation. Colorado has 42 state and four national parks for nature lovers and adventure seekers to explore, as well as the world's largest hot spring, located in Glenwood Springs. Travelzoo deal experts have seen $99 nightly summer rates at resorts that typically run over $450 per night during peak ski season. In addition to aggressive hotel rates, Colorado's central location makes it a perfect drive destination.
Orlando: Many people predict Orlando to be more expensive this summer as the grand opening of Universal Studios' Wizarding World of Harry Potter in June draws new buzz. Contrary to this belief, summer produces some of the best deals to this destination due to the loss of convention business that dominates winter and spring. Families can expect to save up to 50 percent off or more at even upscale Orlando resorts.
Las Vegas: It's no surprise Sin City made the top five summer savings list. In general, May through August is a slower travel season for Las Vegas and Travelzoo deal experts predict more aggressive deals this summer as Sin City continues to operate in recovery mode. Travelers can find hotel deals for $50 per night that include free extras such as spa discounts, casino credits and free V.I.P. nightclub admission. Some of the hottest shows on the Strip are slashing prices, too. So while it may be 90+ degrees outside, the cool casino temperatures and thriving pool scene make it easy to combat the summer heat.
Travelzoo's predictions are based on current and anticipated deals in the marketplace and market information that is available to Travelzoo as the leading global travel deals publisher.
Travelzoo conducted two surveys each among 1,000 nationally representative Americans ages 18+. The interviews were conducted online by Redshift Research between February 5 and February 10, 2010 and between April 7 and April 8, 2010, using e-mail invitation and an online questionnaire. Quotas were set to ensure reliable and accurate representation of the total U.S. population aged 19 or over. Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the U.S.
