Trapeze Networks Solutions Move Belgium's Public Transportation System Forward With Wi-Fi Wireless Networking
Trapeze Integrator WIN Builds a 1,6 Million Euro Wireless Network Including 300 Trapeze Access Points
PLEASANTON, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Trapeze Networks, a Belden Brand (NYSE: BDC) and leader in enterprise wireless LAN equipment and management software, today announced its Trapeze Mobility System® has been selected by systems integrator WIN of Namur, Belgium, to support the wireless workflow communication for the TEC Group's public transportation depots, workshops and warehouses in Belgium's French-speaking region of Wallonne.
This intelligent wireless communications system will allow for the real-time exchange of information between The TEC Group's vehicle fleet of 2,500 vehicles – buses, trams and subways – and its management systems in the main-office warehouse. SRWT (La Societe Regionale Wallonne du Transport), the strategic and commercial management organization for The TEC Group, selected WIN for its Wi-Fi network which includes 300 Trapeze Mobility Point® (MP-622®) Wi-Fi access points for more than 120 transportation depots.
Trapeze President Dhrupad Trivedi said, "The WIN/Trapeze combination will empower The TEC Group fleet drivers and managers with reliable wireless connectivity for important up-to-the-minute information. Trapeze is honored to enable advanced Wi-Fi applications for improvements in The TEC Group's customer service and efficiencies that will increase its customer base and bottom-line."
WIN Improves Service, Security and Safety for Passengers with Trapeze
With onboard wireless computers in the vehicles, The TEC Group drivers can now offer passengers such services as e-ticketing. In addition, current weather reports and pertinent information from management ensures safe and speedy travel to destinations. For vehicle location and other applications, management can access the other in-car subsystems, such as the GPS and driver's mobile phone, now working cohesively with the onboard wireless computers.
Mr. Vanderveken, WIN's company director, said, "We are satisfied with the assiduity and the flexibility of our teams' success in delivering the fundamental wireless network requirements, such as complying with the strictest environmental rules for Wi-Fi antennas on outdoor access points. Protection from environmental factors, such as frost, rain and vandalism, is easily attained by leveraging the technical advantages of the highly-secure Trapeze Wi-Fi solution."
WIN and Trapeze: Real-time Fleet Scheduling and Reporting
As soon as the buses come back to the SRWT depot, the next transport services will be processed through wireless communications between the vehicles and the management departments within the warehouse. The next destination and route will be sent from SRWT automatically and the vehicles will send SRWT data, such as the number of passengers and the types of tickets used by these passengers. This wireless network also allows for enhanced passenger security by transferring video surveillance files, augmenting the other in-car systems (GPS and the SMS alert system).
SRWT has contracted with WIN for approximately 1,6 million euro for the delivery, installation and configuration of the 300 Trapeze MP-622 Wi-Fi access points and the entire wireless networking project. The wireless network will comprise access points, controllers, switches and routers and deploy a security and authentication process and a structured wiring system of copper and fiber optic wiring in the outside poles. Already underway, the wireless network is scheduled to be completely operational in the beginning of 2011, with the first installations ready in September 2010.
