Reauthorizing the federal surface transportation program will not only make money available to cities for road and bridge projects, public transportation projects and passenger and freight rail projects, but it will also create jobs and help the nation's economic recovery.
"State and local governments own and operate the vast majority of our nation's transportation systems. It is essential that they receive the needed funding for repairs and improvements to ensure our nation's safety and economic recovery," said Donald Borut, NLC's executive director. "We are eager to hear Secretary LaHood's plans for reauthorizing the federal surface transportation program and how municipalities and the Department of Transportation can work together to make that a reality."
