Transgender Empowerment Month Strengthens Community Through Education, Training, and Employment Opportunities! Join TEEI for Trans Empowerment Month in April!
SAN FRANCISCO, April 4, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Transgender Economic Empowerment Initiative (TEEI) announces April 2011 as Transgender Empowerment Month (TEM). TEEI is the first comprehensive effort to reduce chronic unemployment and underemployment within the transgender community. The month long celebration will include the Trans Healthcare Career Forum, April 8 and the Transgender Job Fair 7, April 27th. Visit www.teeisf.org or watch our new video for more details.
TEM launches with the Trans Healthcare Career Forum on April 8, 2011, 12 to 3 p.m. at the Center in partnership with the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and many other community programs. The free event will include a panel discussion by transgender community members working in the healthcare field, a networking lunch, and resource fair.
TEEI provides transgender job seekers numerous opportunities to pursue their career passions through workshops to hone in on finding their dream jobs. Over 20 businesses and organizations will gather for the Transgender Job Fair 7 on April 27, 2011, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Center. The job fair allows employers to recruit diverse qualified candidates from the transgender and gender non-conforming community. In preparation, pre-job fair workshops and labs will give job seekers an edge at the fair. This education series provides a blueprint for success.
Employers also benefit from attending the job fair because they have the opportunity to connect with qualified and diverse transgender applicants. Participating employers are carefully selected for the job fair, and all employers receive a free training session provided by Transgender Law Center (TLC). The training gives employers tools to decrease workplace bias towards transgender community members. Employers participating with TEEI and the job fairs also receive free private assistance from TLC after the job fairs and on a continuing basis. TEEI links employees with employers, provides support for transgender job seekers and the recently hired, and improves safety in workplaces.
Transgender Economic Empowerment Initiative (TEEI): TEEI is the nation's first collaborative effort to transform the economic health of transgender people and their families by turning around the high rates of unemployment and underemployment within the transgender community. Collaborative partners include The San Francisco LGBT Community Center (The Center); The Jewish Vocational Service (JVS); Transgender Law Center (TLC). Visit www.teeisf.org for further information.
