Traffic Is Biggest Roadblock to Making Money Online, According to Survey by Intellimon
MIAMI, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- In a recent survey of 50,000 people working to establish online businesses, a majority -- over 67 percent -- said getting traffic is the most difficult task they face. The survey, conducted by Intellimon (http://www.xsitepro.com), publisher of the popular XSitePro Website design software, also found many aspiring online business owners struggle to create and find content for their sites.
"Two-thirds of people setting up online businesses are saying they can't get the traffic they need to make their sites successful," stated Intellimon founder and CEO Paul Smithson. "Another 40 percent find writing content for their sites to be a major hurdle, and nearly 30 percent say they can't find good content. Our results are proving content really is king."
Smithson contends Web site content and traffic are closely tied. Because no one is searching for any specific online start-up by name, businesses must have high-quality content on their sites to generate search traffic. Better content means better search engine rankings and a better chance of being found by searchers looking for the products or services the site offers.
Thirty-two percent of survey respondents said that design issues were a major hurdle when building a profitable online presence, and 21 percent cited building a Web site to be their biggest challenge. Smithson said that's not surprising, given the complexity of designing and building a traffic- and revenue-generating Web site.
"Good design and solid functionality are imperative," continued Smithson, whose company's user-friendly program XSitePro was designed to help ecommerce entrepreneurs clear the hurdle of site development. "A poorly designed site is not likely to inspire visitors to stay and buy."
