Previous Keynote Speakers Return to Event Targeting Women Business Leaders
COLLEGE PARK, Md., March 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Female executives from four high-profile global companies will share career insights with businesswomen and others attending the fifth annual Women Leading Women forum 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.
The headlining speakers are University of Maryland alumnae who were keynote speakers for previous programs in the series: Andrea Brody ('87) senior vice president of Global Marketing for BravoSolution; Kristen Welch ('90, MBA '96) senior vice president of Global Content Operations at Discovery Communications; and Lisa Anders (MBA '95) vice president of business development for McKissack & McKissack. Brenda Freeman, ('87, MBA '91), chief marketing officer for National Geographic Channel, will speak via video.
"Women Leading Women is about successful leaders sharing their perspectives and revealing lessons they've learned so other women do not limit themselves," says Sharon Strange Lewis, EMBA '05, who developed and organizes the event as the Smith School's Senior Director of Women and Diversity Programs. "These speakers are four powerful women – each with a unique journey to the C-suite."
In addition to staging Women Leading Women, the Smith School is a Forté Foundation education partner and announced in 2015 a "50/50 by 2020" pledge to increase female MBA enrollment. Read about these initiatives and more at http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/about-us/diversity/women.
"Despite the growing number of females in management positions, women still have fewer role models and mentors than men," Lewis says.
Sponsored by Textron, Women Leading Women is hosted by Smith's Office of Women and Diversity Programs, with UMD partners: the A. James Clark School of Engineering and the College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences.
This forum for women is free. It takes place in Van Munching Hall's Frank Auditorium and concludes with a networking event including a raffle drawing. Seating is limited. For more information and to reserve a space, go to go.umd.edu/wlw2016.
