VANCOUVER, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ - CMEatSEA, a division of Canada's top cruise-only retailer, Cruise Connections, formed a partnership with Ikageng Itireleng, an organization based in the urban area of Soweto in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Ikageng helps over 1700 orphaned and less fortunate children in an area that is plagued by poverty, tragedy and diseases, such as AIDS. Hundreds visit the center daily for necessities.
In support of the community of Soweto, CMEatSEA's financial donations were used to set up a doctor's consultation room to facilitate ongoing physician visits in Ikageng's community center. CMEatSEA also had a fundraising drive and collected donations including funds, school and medical supplies, clothing and toys.
On February 14, 2011, during CMEatSEA's current Africa travel program, the participants visited the Ikageng community center in Soweto. At an informal ceremonial opening of the doctor's consulting room, participants put their handprints and names in wet cement in the wall of the room. Their visit was a moving experience for themselves as well as Ikageng's dedicated staff, volunteers and the children.
CMEatSEA's partnership with Ikageng is a part of their ongoing charitable initiatives that benefit communities around the world.
Ikageng Itireleng is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded in 2003. Their community-based care model aims to meet the physical and psychological needs of these children.
