Thomas F. Zenty III of University Hospitals Receives Prestigious B'nai B'rith Healthcare Award

WASHINGTON, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- University Hospitals CEO Thomas F. Zenty III has earned the 2010 B'nai B'rith National Healthcare Award, which has recognized outstanding leaders in the healthcare field for 27 years. A gala award dinner will be held May 17 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Chicago.

For nearly three decades, B'nai B'rith has recognized exceptional healthcare leaders and corporations for their open-minded civic concern, philanthropic missions, and passionate commitment to health and welfare.

CEO for seven years, Zenty's vision and drive helped revive the 141 year old University Hospitals. When he first took charge, he solicited ideas on how to cut costs from every staff member. Zenty recognizes that good ideas come from across the spectrum.

The recipients of the B'nai B'rith National Healthcare Award have shown a history of dedicated leadership and outstanding civic involvement in the healthcare field and in the broader community. Award winners support philanthropic causes benefiting health, youth, and education programs.

Before leading University Hospitals, Zenty served as executive vice president at Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles. He earned a bachelor's degree in health planning administration from Pennsylvania State University and a master's in health administration from Xavier University. He also received a master's degree in public administration from New York University.

Co-chairing the awards dinner are Yoshi Honkawa, a healthcare advocacy consultant; Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps Health and the 2009 award recipient; and Chuck Lauer, the retired publisher of Modern Healthcare Magazine who won the National Healthcare Award in 1994.
