Third Annual Race Event Offers Free Running to Increase Drug Awareness.
DALLAS, May 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Jim Utley Foundation, named after James Miller Utley, Plano resident, who died on a methamphetamine binge 6 years ago, is betting on the fact that "everybody knows somebody," according to founder and president, Rebecca Baker, Utley's sister.
"Drugs touch everyone's lives in a negative way at some point, whether it is yourself, your sibling, child, spouse, or just a good friend. At this point and time, I don't know any one cause that touches more lives than drug addiction or abuse," says Baker. "The foundation connects with kids at an earlier age than ever before, reaching kids ages 10 and up with messages about combating peer pressure and knowing the facts about drugs – what they are called, how the body reacts, how they effect the environment, and the dangers of taking a drug even just once."
JUF offers free race participation to members of Boys & Girls Clubs, including staff and youth members, as well as the foundation's Test Yourself youth members—Test Yourself is the free JUF point reward program online (testyourselfrewards.org). JUF also is giving FREE running to Plano police and fire departments for their service to the community. Officers should show their badge/ID on race day, if not already registered.
The "Rock The Block" 10K, 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run is Saturday, May 19, 2012, at The Shops at Legacy in Plano. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m., with the start of the race at 8 a.m. RunOn! is providing event management. There are 1200 people expected.
The Jim Utley Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids choose drug free lives, and rewarding them for making smart life choices, like getting good grades, doing community service, being active in organized sports and clubs, and more.
