Omnicell Interoperability with the Health System's Electronic Health Record Expected to Further Streamline Medication Management
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Omnicell, Inc. (NASDAQ: OMCL) today announced that The University of Kansas Hospital has selected the Company's medication management automation and software across their multi-center health system, with installation expected to begin in the summer of 2016. Omnicell's automated technology and software is intended to streamline hospital workflow through seamless interoperability with the hospital's Epic electronic health record (EHR) system while enhancing inventory management and maintaining the highest level of patient safety.
In selecting a new automation provider, The University of Kansas Hospital sought to increase medication dispensing efficiency, maintain patient safety on the patient floors and in the operating room, and streamline workflows for nurses and pharmacists. Following a four-month evaluation process that included hands-on demonstrations, consultations with current users and meetings with hospital leaders and staff, a multidisciplinary evaluation committee representing nurses, pharmacists and informaticists selected Omnicell's solutions. The University of Kansas Hospital will be installing Omnicell's central pharmacy automation, medication management and analytics solutions designed to increase staff efficiencies as well as provide outstanding patient care.
"With a project scope as large as ours, we needed a partner who would work with us. Ensuring that all of our facilities are working in concert to improve patient safety while reducing administrative burden was also a major goal," said Christopher Bell, MS, PharmD, pharmacy assistant director at The University of Kansas Hospital. "We're excited to work with Omnicell to achieve these goals, and anticipate that their Unity single server platform will allow us valuable inventory transparency across facilities in our health system."
Bell continued, "Omnicell offers us the level of interoperability with our EHR that would allow our nurses to queue up medications anywhere, enabling them to spend more time on direct patient care activities."
"The opportunity to extend Omnicell solutions across The University of Kansas Hospital's health system is an exciting prospect as our company enters 2016," said J. Christopher Drew, executive vice president, sales and marketing at Omnicell. "We are proud to be selected as a partner by a premier Magnet-recognized academic medical institution, and are eager to support their efforts in advancing their high standards for patient care and facility workflow."
