The Toledo Clinic Joins Ohio Independent Collaborative
Statewide organization continues to gain momentum as Northwest Ohio's largest independent physician group joins OIC
CLEVELAND, Nov. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Toledo Clinic, a multi-specialty group located in the Toledo area, has joined the Ohio Independent Collaborative (OIC).
The Toledo Clinic's 225 physicians and mid-level providers increase the total number of OIC providers to more than 800 primary care and specialty physicians.
The Toledo Clinic President Dr. Ian Elliot, said, "Physicians collaborating together can offer much more to the patients in terms of quality of care and cost savings. The majority of the members of the Ohio Independent Collaborative are on the same electronic medical record system, which will greatly improve patient care and communication."
OIC President Dr. Gary Pinta, an Akron-area physician, explained the concept behind the group, saying doctor groups that are coming together in the new initiative, such as The Toledo Clinic, will keep their own names and remain independent groups.
The OIC members will collaborate on initiatives that will improve clinical quality, patient care and access to providers, creating a new care option in the marketplace contrasted to the large health system corporations. The OIC also serves as a platform that enables strategic business benefits for members, including the ability to take advantage of group purchasing opportunities.
The Toledo Clinic joins OIC on the heels of another large physician group – the Columbus-based Central Ohio Primary Care. Together, the addition of the two groups effectively doubles the OIC's size in terms of patient lives from 450,000 to 900,000 in just a few short months.
The physician groups of OIC now offer care in more than 40 specialties, in addition to an extensive network of primary care locations spanning the state from Toledo to Sandusky to Cleveland to Columbus and all markets in between. In addition to The Toledo Clinic, members of OIC include: Central Ohio Primary Care, Community Health Care, Inc., Northern Ohio Medical Specialists (NOMS Healthcare), Pioneer Physicians Network, Premier Physicians and Unity Health Network.
"We're only just beginning to explore the benefits created by this massive collaboration, and the results are already outstanding for everyone involved," said Dr. Robert Kent, OIC chairman. "The local medical landscape is strengthened and safeguarded by independent physicians working together, and we're looking forward to providing even higher levels of care and convenience for our patients around Ohio."
