MIAMI, Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Technology Business Management (TBM) Council unveiled its vision to bring TBM to every technology department of the Global 2000 in the next year at the TBM Conference today. The Council announced this vision to the more than 750 Conference attendees, along with its plans to achieve this goal through investments in education, standardization, and collaboration. The Council's membership grew 50 percent in 2014, bringing its total membership to 1,400. Today's announcement cements the Council's status as the chosen organization of modern IT leaders redefining the value of IT in business today.
The TBM Council is a non-profit organization comprised of executives from some of the most innovative companies in the world like Goldman Sachs, Cisco, Kaiser Permanente, DIRECTV, Time Warner, Campbell's Soup and eBay. More than 40 percent of this year's Conference attendees are CxO level executives who share in the Council's mission. The organization announced its investment plans for 2015, which include:
Education
- Double the number of TBM Workgroups™ to include verticals like manufacturing, public sector, retail, telecom, consumer products, state and local government, as well as professions like IT planning and sourcing. These Workgroups are designed to define industry-specific use-cases of TBM to drive business aligned decision-making, fund innovation, and improve agility.
- Expand community-driven research with partners like McKinsey & Company and George Westerman, Research Scientist at MIT and TBM Council Academic Advisor. The goal of this research is to generate TBM-related content to connect TBM to the academic community and increase its capabilities in business.
Standardization
- Work with its technical advisor, Apptio, to provide input and feedback on the Apptio TBM Unified Model™ (ATUM), a standardized cost and data model, specifically in building upon the existing model to map IT's costs to the business units and services level. The TBM Council endorsed ATUM as a standardized cost model and TBM taxonomy to make it possible to do true apples-to-apples benchmarking, a first in the industry.
Collaboration
- Establish new virtual collaboration systems for TBM Council members. The Council plans to offer the best physical and virtual gathering places for enterprise technology thought-leaders and end users. These platforms will allow practitioners to share their perspectives, lessons, and best practices on the TBM journey.
In addition to outlining its goals for 2015, the Council also announced that next year's TBM Conference will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on October 27-29, 2015. Mark your calendars and register now!
"Every modern IT executive has the chance to shape the future direction of their organization simply by seizing the opportunity that TBM presents. The incredible growth that the Council has seen over the past year is a testament to the value of the work of these professionals," said Chris Pick, TBM Council President. "The inspiring group of IT leaders gathered for the TBM Conference are driving transformation around the monumental changes facing IT today and are taking control of their futures."
In addition to growing its membership base, the TBM Council made significant progress in supporting CIOs and IT leaders as they move to a service-led organization through several key initiatives. A few of the most successful programs of 2014 include:
- International expansion of the TBM Summit to Europe and Australia. The TBM Council hosted Summits in London and Sydney to begin broadening the reach of TBM and the perspective from global companies into the Council. The events were attended by more than 200 IT executives across industries and verticals.
- The successful execution of seven TBM Workgroups, each led by an industry-leading CIO or IT executive, with the objective of advising on industry-specific elements of the TBM taxonomy and cost model. These workgroups catered to specific verticals including: Health Services, Media & Entertainment, Financial Services, Insurance, Energy, and IT functions like technical infrastructure and finance.
- Advised and provided feedback on the TBM Taxonomy, a core component of ATUM, to drive standardization of cost and data models in the industry.
