The Safe Water Team Announces Expansion Plans
West Michigan Humanitarian Organization Joins with Key International Team Members to Introduce the HydrAid(R) BioSand Water Filter to Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Ghana
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to continue its mission of bringing safe drinking water to even the most challenging environments on the planet, the Safe Water Team (www.safewaterteam.org) has announced that it will be expanding its relationship with its international team members to increase distribution of the HydrAid® BioSand Water Filter.
Beginning in Haiti, Safe Water Team (SWT) has been working with Thirsting to Serve (Rotary District 6290) and the United States Navy's "Project Handclasp" program, as well as supply chain team members from Amway, Inc., Cascade Engineering, Dow Chemical Company, and several other for profit and non-profit organizations to provide the Haitian non-profit organization, Pure Water for the World, with 1,000 HydrAid® filters for local residents in the aftermath of the recent devastating earthquakes.
SWT is also currently working with Good Samaritan Hospital in La Romana, Dominican Republic to create a HydrAid® distribution center funded by SWT and Rotarians from Rotary District 6360, the Lowell, Michigan Rotary club, and Rotary Interact District 5170 from California. The Interact group consists of high school students who raised $50,000 to support the effort. Similar efforts are also underway in Honduras through financial support from SWT and the Health and Humanitarian Outreach Program (HHOP), and local distributor Solution Center and Tony Medina, Chairman of the Water and Sanitation Committee for Rotary District 4250. Central Michigan University is assisting SWT to develop business plans for each of these distribution centers.
SWT is currently looking for corporate sponsors, supply chain team members, and local organizations to expand its efforts in Central America and West Africa.
"People shouldn't have to worry about the water they drink," said Jim Bodenner, Executive Director of the Safe Water Team. "It's the goal of the Safe Water Team to enable local residents with the tools they need to have access to this basic need. And as our team continues to grow, our supply chain is getting stronger and stronger, allowing us to reach people in need across the globe. We're looking to expand our list of team members committed to providing clean water."
