CHICAGO, May 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Safe + Fair Food Company is proud to announce the selection of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University as its primary charitable beneficiary. The center was chosen due to a shared goal of improving the lives of food allergic people — and in turn, improving the lives of their families, friends, and communities.
The Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research is the first center of its kind. As part of Stanford University, it aims not only to find better treatments for allergies and asthma, but to discover underlying mechanisms and develop lasting cures. This work is critical in a world of escalating food allergies.
Today, an estimated 17 million people in the United States face food allergies. Recent estimates suggest that between 30 to 40 percent of the global population suffer from one or more allergic conditions.[i] These overwhelming numbers motivate both The Safe + Fair Food Company CEO, Will Holsworth, and Director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research, Dr. Kari Nadeau, to address this growing problem.
"We're here because we know what it's like to be personally impacted by food allergies, and because we've seen the community of food allergic people double about every 10 years," said Holsworth. "Our mission is to help food allergic families live simpler lives, which aligns perfectly with the exceptional work Dr. Nadeau and her team are doing at the Sean N. Parker Center. Our hope is that through combined efforts, we will create significant change in the lives of the millions of people affected by food allergies."
"We are honored to have The Safe + Fair Food Company as a donor to this groundbreaking work at the Center," Dr. Nadeau adds. "Community support is vital for getting new treatments to food allergy patients today, and establishing the standard of care for the future. The Safe + Fair Food Company's support will help us find a lasting cure for all patients who are dealing with the challenges of food allergies."
The Safe + Fair Food Company will donate 3 percent of all proceeds to the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University to support science, research, and care. To further food allergy awareness, Safe + Fair will promote the partnership on product packaging. Additionally, the Safe + Fair website will be used to share the latest in food allergy research.
