The Number of Hotels Offering RT Content to Guests Multiplies 23 Times
NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The number of hotels with RT content available has grown 23 times in 2009, with potential audiences almost doubling.
In the U.S., RT broadcasts at major worldwide chains such as MARRIOTT, CROWNE PLAZA, HYATT, HILTON, SHERATON, RENAISSANCE and many other four- and five-star hotels. The same applies to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. The achievement is seven times in excess of the planned expansion, though staying within the 2009 hotel distribution budget.
Aside from the hotels, the potential audience almost doubled in 2009 due to new distribution networks and expansion into new territories. Specifically, December 2009 saw RT coming within reach of more than 18 million subscribers to Canada's Bell TV, Rogers Cable, Shaw Cable and Shaw Direct. RT has also expanded in Asia, joining Airtel Digital TV (India), DD Direct plus (India), SingTel (Singapore), and StarHub (Singapore), which amounts to 100 million viewers in India and 2.6 million in Singapore. In the U.S., the potential audience grew by 5.5 million, as broadcasting began in Los Angeles and San Diego via Time Warner Cable LA, San Diego.
"RT has become much more accessible, and its broadcasts are enjoyed by millions across the world. Where RT comes not only via satellite but also through cable, the figures speak for themselves. In Washington DC alone, we are ahead of Al Jazeera English by 6.5 times, and Deutsche Welle, 5 times*. We offer an alternative perspective on news, and show stories you will never obtain from mainstream broadcasters," – said RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan.
