HOLLYWOOD, Fla., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The popularity of Zumba Fitness®, the organization behind the acclaimed fitness-party™ workout, is now showing up in the actual party scene- the club nightlife. And while Zumba Fitness nightclub parties have slowly been popping up around the country, now for the first time, there is a weekly Zumba nightlife party taking place in New York City.

"Zumba has always been known as the 'fitness-party' so it was only a matter of time before the party came out of the gym and onto the club dance floor," said Alberto Perlman, CEO and co-founder of Zumba Fitness. "Zumba bridges the gap between music and fitness; it's a mixture of artistic expression and health. Zumba is about passion."
Zumba's popularity has exploded over the past five years in gyms with approximately seven and a half million weekly followers in 105 countries (and classes offered in every state in the U.S.). But just over the last few months, Zumba nightlife parties have been popping up in dance clubs across the country from Michigan to North Carolina.
This week, the trend hit New York City with the launch of Monday Night Zumba, a weekly Zumba party at the popular dance club Sounds of Brazil (SOB) located at 204 Varick Street. For a $30 cover, a one-hour class was offered to more than 200 participants who were encouraged to stay after for dancing, drinking and mingling.
In true New York style, the event featured special guest musician and artist Wyclef Jean, who performed several songs and participated in the Zumba class. "The club was packed and everyone was pumped- there was so much energy in the room," said Wyclef Jean. "People had been telling me all about Zumba but I had no idea how thrilling it was until I tried it. If you like music and you like to move, this is a good way to enjoy both."

Monday Night Zumba is hosted every Monday by Zumba instructor Edmee Cherdieu d'Alexis at SOB beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, please visit http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=113475458690826&ref=ts .
