The National Women's Business Council (NWBC) Welcomes Sherry Stewart Deutschmann and Whitney Keyes to Esteemed Group of Women Business Leaders
WASHINGTON, Sept. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Women's Business Council is pleased to welcome two new members: Sherry Stewart Deutschmann and Whitney Keyes, who will be joining the federal advisory council whose mission is to conduct research and provide advice and policy recommendations to the White House, Congress and the Small Business Administration.
In 2002, Sherry – a single mother with little background in running her own business – quit her job and launched LetterLogic. Her mission was simple, reports the New York Times in a profile; she could build a "better company by building a better culture." It worked. Today, LetterLogic is a $36 million, multi-channel patient communications company located in Nashville, Tennessee.
Sherry's commitment to creating a culture where employees come first has led to being profiled in a variety of publications, including NY Times, Forbes Magazine, Business Leaders, INC., Fast Company and E&Y. She has also been named an INC 5000 Company for nine consecutive years.
When asked why she is so excited to join the Council, Sherry said, "One of my favorite quotes of all times is from Madeleine Albright who stated 'there's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.' I hope that my personal brand is forever attached to helping other women start and grow successful businesses, and the NWBC is the perfect vehicle for meaningful work that can impact women now."
Whitney Keyes is no stranger to advocating on behalf of small businesses. She started her career managing her family's small business and led the local merchant association. Her community activism led her to a newly created position to work for the City of Tacoma's Economic Development Department in Washington State. In that role, she helped manage the City's Neighborhood Business District Revitalization Program, advocating for over 500 small businesses to help them survive and thrive.
Shortly after, she worked at Microsoft, a strategic adviser for American Express and a consultant to thousands of small businesses around the world. Whitney is currently a professor and fellow for the Center for Strategic Communications at Seattle University, where she teaches Global Reputation Management and related marketing communication courses.
Whitney has received several grants from the U.S. State Department to empower women leaders, social entrepreneurs and youth in Asia and Africa. She is the winner of the Small Business Administration's Women in Business Champion of the Year Award for Washington State, and author of the book, Propel: Five Ways to Amp Up Your Marketing and Accelerate Business (Career Press).
She is thrilled to join the Council and eager to help "build more awareness across the country of the important work of the Council and to raise awareness of economic issues impacting women in business." Whitney said, "I am excited to see how the Council can help women gain more access to strategic information about social entrepreneurship and the benefits of using businesses for social good to bring about positive change in the world."
"We are so excited that both these incredible, talented, high profile and successful women are joining the Council. We rely on the insight and experiences of the Council Members in women's entrepreneurship to put forth sound and informed recommendations to the White House, Congress and the Small Business Administration. Whitney and Sherry will build upon our legacy of inciting action," said Carla Harris, Presidentially-appointed Chair of the National Women's Business Council.
