The Language Of The Kitchen
Top Educational Institutions Team Up to Create ESL + Food Certificate Program
NEW YORK, Oct. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- International Culinary Center, a global leader in wine and culinary education, has teamed up with The New School, a leading university in New York City, to create the ESL + Food Certificate. The program will allow students to attend International Culinary Center (ICC) after receiving a high-quality English language education at The New School, including a special "The Language of the Kitchen" class.
The two institutions have an existing partnership in which ICC graduates can transfer credits toward a bachelor's or associate's degree at The New School, providing the opportunity to earn both a college degree AND a culinary diploma. The ESL + Food Certificate is a new program, addressing the increasing number of international students who want to come to NYC for culinary education, but sometimes fall short on the minimum language requirement. The New School program includes:
- Intensive English language study including courses in Reading and Vocabulary, Academic Writing, and Listening and Speaking
- "The Language of the Kitchen" course to reinforce key vocabulary of food, cooking, and preparation techniques in an interactive classroom and NYC setting, including field trips to ICC for demonstrations and trips to the Union Square greenmarket
- Access to cutting-edge culinary events and guest speakers
- F1 student visa eligibility based on full-time student status
- Services and academic resources including university housing, health services, library services and English language tutoring
"The word 'international' is part of our name, and comprises 15-20% of our student population," explains ICC's CEO and founder Dorothy Cann Hamilton. "Expanding our relationship with The New School to improve fluency both in and out of the kitchen will allow aspiring chefs from every corner of the globe to attend our school."
