The Everett Clinic Relies on Visual TruView™ and OptiView XG® from Fluke Networks for Efficient Operations and Quality Patient Care
Comprising the industry's only complete AANPM solution, Visual TruView and OptiView XG help The Everett Clinic IT team cut network performance troubleshooting from hours to minutes
EVERETT, Wash., April 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As a modern healthcare facility, The Everett Clinic depends on sophisticated networks and smooth-running applications to help ensure quality care. To keep its network and applications running through 25 buildings in eight communities to serve more than 307,000 patients, the clinic has deployed the Visual TruView™ unified application-aware network performance management (AANPM) solution together with the OptiView XG® Network Analysis Tablet, both from Fluke Networks. Together, the two products enable the clinic to monitor and troubleshoot its expansive network to prevent delays in delivering prescriptions, problems with billing and holdups with diagnostic systems.
"Network infrastructure and applications are critical to patient care today. We run hundreds of applications, and they all matter to someone in the healthcare ecosystem," said Don Lester, network and telecom manager at The Everett Clinic. "We have to make sure performance is high enough to meet the needs of doctors, medical and administrative staff, and patients. Visual TruView and the OptiView XG give us the insights needed to meet those performance expectations and solve problems fast."
The Everett Clinic offers comprehensive patient care, from trusted family practice doctors to skilled surgeons—all of which is supported by a single electronic medical record system called Epic. The clinic's 2,200 employees serve eight communities and handle almost a million visits annually. Its geographically dispersed infrastructure connects through a central data center in Everett, Washington and runs hundreds of software applications to support billing, diagnostics, networked medical equipment, scheduling and many other clinical and administrative functions.
If the performance among servers and applications slows down, it can result in poor patient care, such as delays in writing prescriptions, problems with billing, or manual entry of clinical notes into record-keeping systems. All of these functions require the highest level of network performance, which meant the clinic needed a solution that could conduct 24/7 monitoring and expedite root-cause identification and troubleshooting.
"TruView helps immediately narrow down the scope of performance problems, so we can do further analysis on a specific node or server. It can eliminate hours of diagnostic time and point us precisely in the right direction. If processes are running slow, we can immediately identify the source using Visual TruView and OptiView XG," said Lester.
Visual TruView uses key data sets, including packet storage, application response time, transactional decode, NetFlow and SNMP, to measure the performance of an organization's applications and then report the results through a single dashboard. Visual TruView and OptiView XG work in tandem to provide a comprehensive overview of both wired and wireless network performance throughout the organization, including the data center, remote sites and applications delivered across cloud, carrier and enterprise networks.
"IT is in the unique position of having three distinct customers – doctors, staff and patients. Everyone relies on optimal network and application performance to do their jobs, stay connected, and provide high-level care. We can't afford to have these systems impact the quality of service the clinic provides," said Lester. "I've been very pleased with TruView and OptiView, and we're excited to see the solution continue to evolve."
