FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DataMotion™ – an experienced health information service provider (HISP) with the industry's leading record of customer deployments and Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2) attestations – today announced an agreement with The Bronx Regional Health Information Organization (Bronx RHIO, based in New York City) to provide Direct messaging capabilities to its affiliated healthcare organizations. SBH Health System and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) are among the first to take advantage of the new service.
DataMotion Direct enables healthcare providers and organizations to exchange health information securely while remaining in full compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The secure messaging service complies with the federal government's Direct Project, which aims to improve patient outcomes through better care coordination, as well as the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY) requirements for Direct.
The Bronx RHIO will use DataMotion's Direct Secure Messaging to further advance its mission to provide a secure, interoperable health information exchange, allowing patients' medical records to follow them wherever they go for health services in the Bronx. Through the Bronx RHIO's services, clinicians can access vital health information whenever and wherever it is needed, enabling significant improvements in patient safety, health outcomes and practice efficiencies.
"For organizations to be able to deliver the highest levels of patient care and treatment, they must be able to easily exchange patients' medical information in a manner that is completely secure and HIPAA compliant," said Charles Scaglione, executive director at the Bronx RHIO.
VNSNY needed a HISP in order to securely receive standardized patient health records from referring hospitals, known as transition of care (TOC) documents. VNSNY turned to the Bronx RHIO because of DataMotion Direct's deployment speed and flexibility. The Bronx RHIO was able to have VNSNY successfully receiving TOC documents from St. Barnabas Hospital in less than one week. Located in the Bronx, St. Barnabas Hospital is the flagship of the SBH Health System. Using the DataMotion Direct Community Web Portal deployed by the Bronx RHIO, VNSNY received the TOC documents from St. Barnabas without using additional electronic health record (EHR) software. This also allowed SBH Health System to enhance their care coordination activities in the community and fulfill MU2 requirements.
"VNSNY is committed to delivering the highest level of patient care across a wide spectrum of diverse health needs affecting many vulnerable populations," said Hugh Hale, chief information officer, Visiting Nurse Service of New York. "It is essential that our clinicians are able to easily exchange patients' medical information in a manner that is completely secure and HIPAA compliant. DataMotion is the leader in the field, and in conjunction with the Bronx RHIO, their rapid implementation capability met our extremely tight time-to-market requirements."
"It's gratifying to work with the Bronx RHIO and to help make a difference for healthcare providers and patients in the Bronx," said Bob Janacek, chief technology officer at DataMotion. "Providers benefit from a quick, easy way to securely exchange medical information, while patients enjoy improved care and better health outcomes. We look forward to working in partnership with the Bronx RHIO to solve the diverse interoperability needs of their many constituents."
