ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) today announces the results of a new survey that reveals Dallas residents' facial plastic surgery proclivities.
It's no secret that looking youthful and beautiful is a priority for southern belles. From big hair to big improvement, Dallas women (and men) often spare no expense when it comes to looking their best.
The survey shows that nearly 75 percent of Dallas men and women have had or are considering a cosmetic procedure on the face or neck. The other 25 percent are on the fence about it, suggesting that the majority of Dallas residents have a 'never say never' attitude towards a nip here or a tuck there.
What is Driving The Desire To Look Good?
Selfie mania ranked high in the decision to go under the knife. Almost one quarter (22 percent) of survey respondents were motivated by the frustrations they felt with their image on social media networks.
"Over the last five years, the selfie craze has exploded across all age groups," says Dr. Stephen S. Park, AAFPRS President. "Photographs on social media can deliver a distorted image of reality, holding up a magnifying glass to flaws, real or perceived. This is causing plastic surgery requests to skyrocket in both teens as well as adults."
Major life events like a wedding or high school reunion also play a role (13 percent), as does the desire to remain competitive in the workforce (15 percent).
Here's the breakdown of the most desired procedures in Dallas:
- Neck (40 percent)
- Eyes (39 percent)
- Lips (33 percent)
- Rhinoplasty (32 percent)
- Forehead (23 percent)
According to the survey, Dallas residents are most concerned with the appearance of their necks. Pesky plastysmal (neck muscle) bands and sagging skin under the chin have surpassed even facial wrinkles as the highest ranking concern about the signs of aging.
"The recent FDA approval of the 'fat melting' drug Kybella® is spurring a surge in requests for procedures to improve neck contours," says Dr. Park. "It provides a new option to consider for those who are not ready for a surgical fix, but are looking for a solution to get rid of fatty deposits beneath the chin."
After all, no one wants to hide behind a turtleneck in the Texas heat.
