Teradata and Hortonworks will join forces to provide technologies and strategic guidance to help businesses build integrated, transparent, enterprise-class big data analytic solutions that leverage Apache Hadoop. The partnership will focus on enabling businesses to use Apache Hadoop to harness the value from new sources of data. Businesses will be able to quickly load and refine multi-structured data, some of which is being discarded today, for discovery and analytics. The resulting insights will enable analysts and front-line users to make the best business decision possible.
"Our partnership allows Teradata to continue to build on its success and commitment to being the number one strategic data solutions provider," said Scott Gnau, president, Teradata Labs, Teradata. "Working together, Teradata and Hortonworks will offer guidance, with a supported reference architecture, which effectively captures and leverages all aspects of big data analytics. The resulting solutions will help customers solve business problems in new and better ways."
Teradata already has a range of industry-leading solutions that offer integrated data warehousing and big data analytics, which are supported by the Teradata Database, Teradata Aster, and the Teradata platform family. The power of Teradata will be coupled with the Hortonworks Data Platform, integrated services, and support to drive the most value from these complementary technologies.
"As a leader in the Apache Hadoop community, Hortonworks is excited to share its expertise with Teradata to accelerate the development of powerful new analytics capabilities that leverage Apache Hadoop," said Shaun Connolly, vice president, corporate strategy, Hortonworks. "Together, we will guide customers on the right way to use these complementary technologies to create new business value from their multi-structured data."
By working with leading partners like Hortonworks, Teradata continues to provide a choice of integrated solutions. Teradata has also established partnerships with other best-in-class Hadoop vendors.
According to Tasso Argyros, co-president, Teradata Aster, "As a pioneer in the big data space, we have witnessed the market's explosion in recent years. There has been a proliferation of technologies, which has been good for customers, but it has also created confusion. Teradata's goal to provide concrete guidance to enterprise customers on how to utilize the best big data technologies to respond to a full spectrum of customer needs."
"There is considerable confusion in the market about the role of Hadoop in the data center, and more importantly, how Hadoop technologies can bring value to the enterprise," said Colin White, president, BI Research. "With the announcement of the Hortonworks partnership, Teradata has highlighted the importance of Hadoop and has taken a leadership position in helping its customers understand and leverage big data technologies in the enterprise."
For example, each day websites generate many terabytes of raw, complex data about customers' viewing and buying habits. These web logs can be directly loaded into Teradata Aster or Apache Hadoop where they can be stored, transformed, and refined in preparation for analysis by the Teradata Aster MapReduce platform. The analysis provides insight into customer preferences. When combined with business data, the insights support marketing campaigns that provide the right offer, delivered at the right time, to the right consumer.
The Apache Hadoop capabilities from the Hortonworks Data Platform support the Teradata® Analytical Ecosystem. The analytical ecosystem is a comprehensive portfolio of hardware, software, and services that enable different Teradata systems to seamlessly work together to deliver analytics and greater insight to users.
The partnership's long-range plans include joint development, support, and marketing.
