Telect Donation to EWU Helps Create Power Lab
Upgraded Facility to be Dedicated Tuesday; Company Taking an Active Role in Education and Business Communities in the Inland Northwest
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash., Jan. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Telect will be honored at a dedication ceremony Tuesday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash., where a student lab in the College of Science Health and Engineering is being named after the company.
The lab is the result of a donation of money and materials Telect made to the college last fall. In all, the donation included nearly $100,000 in laboratory equipment and furniture, along with $10,000 in financial assistance.
Telect, which manufactures infrastructure and equipment for communications networks, is an industry leader in power distribution, protection and management. Donating to a local university provided the company with an opportunity to invest in education, as well as to be actively involved in shaping the skill sets and competencies developed in technology-related education in the Inland Pacific Northwest.
"Getting involved with area universities is crucial for Telect as we shape our company into the future," said Paul Knight, Telect's vice president of product development and marketing, and also a member of the EWU College of Science, Health and Engineering Advisory Board.
"Telect is positioned for great opportunities in the coming years as the technologies we're developing play a critical role in communications networks, and by partnering with EWU we not only can improve the students' learning experience, but can also help to develop resources for our future," Knight said.
The dedication event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 25th at 1:30 p.m. in the EWU Computer Engineering Building Atrium in Cheney. The reception includes presentations by EWU President Rodolfo Arevalo and Telect President and CEO Wayne Williams.
"One of the guiding principles of our company is to be strongly involved in the communities where we serve," said Telect's Williams. "Partnering with institutes of higher learning is a natural fit for us, and we're happy to be part of the exciting programs at Eastern Washington, Gonzaga University, the University of Idaho and Whitworth University."
