SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) has selected Tegrity Campus, the award-winning lecture capture service for higher education, to improve academic achievement for the more than 400,000 students attending Washington State's public system of 34 community and technical colleges.

In its Strategic Technology Plan, SBCTC focuses on one goal: to mobilize technology to increase student success. Key to achieving this goal was the selection of a lecture capture system that will provide every student within the system the ability to review classes online in order to improve their chance for academic success. After a comprehensive selection process that included six vendors, Tegrity Campus was selected for its ability to effectively capture classes across the entire system with the lowest total cost of ownership among competing solutions.
While Tegrity's cloud-based service model supports the storage of content either on campus or in the cloud, SBCTC opted for full cloud-based delivery due to it being the most cost-effective option. By going this route, no servers, software or classroom-based appliances will need to be deployed across the 34 unique institutions that are part of the system. This not only reduces up-front costs for SBCTC, but also the ongoing costs of managing, monitoring and maintaining equipment that would have otherwise been spread out across the individual community and technical colleges.
"We were looking for a solution that not only offered a superior student experience, but could also be effectively deployed and managed across the entire system. The cloud-based nature and high-level of automation of Tegrity takes an enormous load off the IT resources within the colleges that make up our system, making it more practical than server or appliance-based solutions for such a large-scale deployment," said Cable Green, Director, eLearning and Open Education for SBCTC. "Another key consideration in our selection of Tegrity was its ease-of-use for faculty and students."
Also key to the selection of Tegrity Campus was the ability for each institution to manage various settings, generate its own reports, and control the look and feel of the interface (such as colors and logo), while at the same time allowing SBCTC to generate system-wide reports.
Since these reports provide user-level detail, SBCTC can correlate usage with grades, and therefore measure Tegrity's impact on student achievement at the system-level. This closely supports the component of SBCTC's Strategic Technology Plan to use data to drive continuous improvement in student success.
"With all the compelling data available today on the impact of lecture capture on student achievement, institutions are no longer looking at deploying across a handful of classrooms. More and more, we are seeing campus-wide and now system-wide deployments," said Isaac Segal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tegrity. "Most of the solutions available on the market today simply cannot affordably scale to these levels of use. In fact, we are confident that no other solution can match Tegrity's mix of affordability, scalability, ease-of-use and overall effectiveness; and the selection of Tegrity Campus by SBCTC certainly reinforces this belief. We are excited to help SBCTC increase student success across their system."
