Tech Startup, Luvr, Brings Digital Video Capability To Mobile Dating
Luvr Combines Aspects Of Snapchat, Instagram, and Skype Into One Streamlined Dating App
PHILADELPHIA, May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Luvr, a new video-based mobile dating application, is now available for download for iOS and Android devices, the company announced today.
Combining video-centric features from social apps like Snapchat, Instagram, and Skype, Luvr offers users a familiar, yet unique digital matchmaking experience that stands apart from the biggest names in the online dating space.
Unlike popular digital dating services such as Tinder and Bumble, Luvr's 3-tiered communication model allows users to find potential matches by viewing both pre-recorded video bios and pictures of each other, send Snapchat-like video snaps, and video chat right from the app.
"One of the great things about video is that it allows you to pick up on subtle nuances about a person's personality, their mannerisms, their sense of humor, and other traits that tell you much more about who that person is and what they're actually like versus a static photo that might be several years old and not an accurate representation of who that person is today," said Luvr CEO Oliver Buckley.
To ensure all uploaded video and photo content is up-to-date, Luvr incorporates an official timestamp feature that shows when the video or photo was taken. This also helps eliminate problems with catfishing -- those who create a false online identity or misrepresent themselves to lure would-be partners into a romantic relationship.
Luvr's "Double Swipe Verification System" adds an extra layer onto the familiar swipe left/swipe right functionality. Swiping left lets users pass and continue searching for matches. Swiping right once lets users learn more information about a potential match, and swiping right again means they would consider meeting that person in real life to see.
The company has developed an advanced filter process that allows users to narrow their search criteria by sexual preference, body type, and race and ethnicity, with plans to add religious preferences in the future. Users can also simply browse matches aggregated from the app's geo-location-based technology.
When asked about what he saw as the future of online dating, Buckley said, "More and more, people are taking advantage of video as a go-to medium when it comes to interacting with their social groups. Whether that's on Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp, you name it. With Luvr, we're simply applying that capability to the mobile dating scene to give people the added benefits it delivers over the limitations of today's photo-only alternatives."
